The Link

The Link is Ginninderry’s multi-purpose community and information centre. Currently, it hosts our project management team and sales office, whilst also being used for art exhibitions, workshops, training and community gatherings.

It also features a barbecue, tandoori oven, community and native garden beds, children’s play house and art installations throughout.

The Link hosts a revolving calendar of local art exhibitions as well as a fleet of e-bikes for hire (free for up to two hours).

E-bike hire

Ginninderry has partnered with BYKKO, Australia’s first electric-bike share company, to provide an innovative and environmentally-friendly form of transportation. Our fleet of electric bikes have a range of 60km on a single charge and can reach speeds of up to 25km/h. The e-bikes are free for the first two hours and can be unlocked via the BYKKO App by scanning the QR code at the docking station.

Make the most of Ginninderry’s dedicated network of cycle paths and discover the joy of e-bikes. The docking station can be found at the entrance to The Link.

Conservation Corridor Walking Tracks

Enjoy Canberra’s first swing bridges and immerse yourself in the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor’s natural beauty by exploring over 13km of walking tracks, taking in expansive landscapes along the Murrumbidgee River. The tracks offer a range of distances with option to suit various fitness levels, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy. A dedicated children’s walk has been created, providing young explorers an opportunity to engage with the natural environment. The Conservation Corridor is a Nature Reserve, so no pets are allowed.

Paddys Park

The largest open space in the first neighbourhood at Strathnairn is the 2.7-hectare Paddys Park. A number of elements in the design came from suggestions received from a wide range of discussions and workshops with community groups. The park includes a diverse mix of active and informal recreation spaces as well as a pond and wetland system as a central feature, complete with a network of circulation paths and a boardwalk.

A large playground is complimented by a range of informal play spaces as well as a multi-use sports court and fully enclosed cricket nets.

And there are plenty of opportunities for relaxation and community connection with BBQ and picnic areas, an amphitheatre and a community event space.

Cafe Stepping Stone

Cafe Stepping Stone in Strathnairn has fast developed a reputation for its spectacular setting and unique vegetarian menu, but they’re not only keeping locals happy with delicious food and drinks. They’re also giving a whole lot more back to the community.

Providing inclusive employment and practical training opportunities for migrant and refugee women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds through an innovative and sustainable vegetarian cafe.

Open Wednesday – Sunday, 9am – 4pm.

Strathnairn Arts

Strathnairn Arts is a not-for-profit arts association supported by the ACT Government through artsACT, providing working spaces and facilities for a range of artists, crafts people and community groups. Strathnairn Arts has been used by artists for decades but remains one of Canberra’s best-kept secrets.

Strathnairn Galleries, SHOP, Café, Studios, Artist in Residence accommodation, Village Hall, Ceramic kilns, Foundry and Woolshed are set on 9.5 hectares all boasting stunning views towards the Brindabella Mountains. The Homestead Galleries feature regular mixed media exhibitions, a Cafe and SHOP which displays and sells a range of unique handmade works by local artists and makers.

Bicentennial National Trail

Take a journey into tranquil landscapes along part of the Bicentennial National Trail.

The Trail, dreamed up by legendary horseman R.M. Williams, stretches for 5,330 from Cooktown in Queensland down the eastern coast of Australia to Healesville, in Victoria but also weaves through Ginninderry.

To access the trail, walk through the farm gates at the end of McClymont Way (next to The Link) and follow the signs north, hugging the western edge of Strathnairn, toward Parkwood Road.

Ginninderry Conservation Corridor

The Ginninderry Conservation Corridor spans the border of the ACT and NSW along the Murrumbidgee River and Ginninderra Creek. It incorporates more than 596 hectares of scenic landscape made up of open woodland, native grasslands and a flowing river and waterfall. The corridor is home to an abundant range of flora and fauna including some endangered species.

The Conservation Corridor is a Nature Reserve, so no pets are allowed.

Little Eagle Glyph

Ginninderry’s landmark sculpture – The Little Eagle Glyph – greets visitors to the suburb of Strathnairn and symbolises the sense of place and connection with the land that underpins the Ginninderry development.

Unveiled in 2019, The Little Eagle Glyph was created by local artist G.W. Bot. The 4.3 metre bronze sculpture represents the Little Eagle, declared a vulnerable species in the ACT and NSW, and one of the world’s smallest eagles.

The name of the work also refers to “glyphs” a kind of alphabet of the Australian landscape she has developed over the years, symbols which show up on the sculpture and the surrounding rocks.

Circle of Stones

The Circle of Stones is an installation inspired by a suggestion from a young student at a community consultation event. The student suggested including a “relaxing circle of stones” as a means for adding visual interest to the landscape, while providing a place of solitude, reflection and rest.

With funding from the Ginninderra Rotary Club, the Circle of Stones were unveiled in 2021. Nestled into the gentle north western slope towards the top of a park, the stones and existing trees frame the landscape, providing visitors breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valley. Shrubs and trees planted to the east and south-east add an element of discovery, while maintaining views from the pathway.

Visitors to the space are greeted by a circle of granite boulders, designed by artist Bronwyn Berman, set within a circular platform 11 metres in diameter. Level ground of the installation rises to the south-east, providing an amphitheatre style grassy slope on which to sit or lie while enjoying the view. Standing stones graduate from largest (150cm) to smallest (60cm) and are placed in such a way as to pay homage to the characteristic rocky outcrops associated with the local area.

Common Ground II, 2021

Sui Jackson’s Common Ground ii make use of local clay to connect the community to the public spaces, and the ground itself. Common Ground II is integrated within the wall in the amenities in Ginninderry’s new community park, Paddy’s Park.

This is a delicate installation of decorated tiles. It represents a shared identity, an appreciation of sustainable local materials, and a deeper understanding of the land. The tiles here are made from the local clay sourced from groundwork excavations at Ginninderry. These tiles are stamped with found leaves, flowers and feathers to create a truly unique and local product.

Sculptural Chairs and Planter Boxes

Who Am I And Who Is My Mob

The Ginninderry JV partnered with the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in 2018 to deliver the Messenger Program’s Aboriginal art initiative – “Who Am I and Who Is My Mob” standing pole project. The Messengers Program is an artsbased early support program for young people who are experiencing signs of anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.

The program also assists young people to explore personal and gender identity. At risk young people aged 12 – 25 years are offered an artsbased approach that builds resilience, improves mental health and young people’s acceptance of their diversity.

The program teaches young people creative skills across a range of artistic mediums, including visual arts, performing arts and digital and cross-art forms.

River Life

River Life by Canberra local Leah Brideson

Conveying the fundamental bonds of people, culture, plants, animals to water, this artwork envelops the walls of buildings that contain important Icon Water infrastructure to supply Canberra’s drinking water. Leah Brideson is a self-taught Contemporary Aboriginal (Kamilaroi) Artist. This artwork was first commissioned as part of Ginninderry’s ‘First Nations Design Library’ in 2021. With River Life, Leah expresses “the river’s diverse connections, the flora and fauna, and the Ngunnawal people’s deep relationship with the land, emphasising the importance of environmental respect. The ripple effect in the water symbolizes the passing of knowledge.

Waters of Ginninderry

Waters of Ginninderry, Life Beneath’ by renowned Ngunawal Artists Wilay Designs

Conveying the fundamental bonds of people, culture, plants, animals to water, this artwork envelops the walls of buildings that contain important Icon Water infrastructure to supply Canberra’s drinking water. This takes the viewer under the water’s surface, depicting how “waterways hold stories of old, memories, and a shared responsibility to keep them clean, healthy, and flowing, so they can continue to nurture the land, the animals, and the people for generations to come.

DarkForest, 2017

Dark Forest is an etching by Jo Hollier, a Strathnairn Arts Association studio holder. Inspired by the natural beauty of local Yellow Box Gum woodlands the composition depicts one of the iconic natural symbols of the Ginninderry project. This image was purchased for licensed use by Riverview Projects and reinterpreted in the large steel doors at the Link
using a laser perforation technique.

The door panels are a great example of how art can be seamlessly integrated into architecture delivering a strong visual impact as one approaches the building.

Dandelions, 2017

Al Phemister is a sculptor and arts advocate living in Yass. This series tells a story that we all relate to. Picking and blowing dandelions (“Wishes”), is something that we all have done, and continue to see children do today. Standing more than 2 metres tall in the landscape and they seem to float and gently move in the breeze as they are scattered by the wind.

Green Link

Linking the Conservation Corridor and The Link to neighbouring Holt and wider Belconnen is the Green Link along Tredwell Street in Ginninderry’s first suburb, Strathnairn.

Strategically located alongside medium-density housing, including Ginninderry’s own Flexi-living Series, the Green Link provides an opportunity for residents to use the area as if it is their backyard. A place for children to play, friendships to form and plants to grow.

With a “Slow Street” design ethos, Tredwell Street has a pedestrian-friendly road limited to 20km/h, is lighter in colour and raised to match the height of the footpath. Ginninderry’s Water Sensitive Urban Design approach is also evident with water running off straight into the garden beds. Running the length of the Green Link, these garden beds feature a variety of rocks and plants to help slow the water and stop erosion, while also treating the water before it runs into nearby water bodies.

As you walk along the Green Link you will see many different plants including a few foraging plants like lavender, feijoa trees and thyme, creating a forage street for those living in the area. Specifically, the lavender was planted as a bee attractor, encouraging bees to return to the developed area to help pollinate the suburb.

Nature Play Park

A balance of the natural environment and a traditional play space, the nature play park in Strathnairn is the perfect place to let the kids get a little dirty and interact with the world around them. With natural elements including climbing ropes, tree logs, an Arbor tunnel plus more bring your little ones to let their imaginations run wild while they practice their gross motor skills.

Hilltop Park

Located on Jill Landsberg Terrace in Strathnairn, Hilltop park is the perfect gathering spot for the whole family. With breathtaking views of the Brindabellas, bring a picnic basket and let the kids run free. Don’t forget a basketball to shoot on the half-court, for the smaller play enthusiasts there is a ground level carousel & underground talking pipes as well as climbing equipment.

Community Mural by Mimi Fairall

Canberra born artist Mimi Fairall was tasked to bring some vibrancy & excitement to the temporary hoarding that faces Pro Hart Avenue. Inspired by the beauty & features of life at Ginninderry an abstract, graffiti inspired piece was born. Sprinkled throughout the work are subtle references to what makes Ginninderry special, 6 stars that represent our Green-Star accreditation, our Spark symbol, bikes & bike paths plus more, what will you find?

In June 2023 Mimi was kind enough to let the community get involved and a working bee was held to help finish the wall off, can you find your contribution?
