COMMUNITY & WORKSHOPS

Guided Walks through the Conservation Corridor

Reconnect with nature and explore the beauty of the Ginninderry Conservation Corridor with a guided walk. Led by a knowledgeable ranger, these walks offer a great opportunity to learn about the Corridor’s wildlife, ecosystems and the current conservation efforts in the area. Not to mention you’ll get a front row seat to stunning views of the Murrumbidgee River, Brindabella Mountains and surrounds.

Have nothing to repair? Head along to learn some new skills – like knitting, sewing, mending, and crocheting. It is fun, relaxing, social, and makes you feel good. All welcome, just drop in!

Silent Book Club @ Café Stepping Stone

Taking place monthly, this Silent Book Club is open to everyone, with no fees or age limits. You can engage with others as much or as little as you like! Unlike traditional book clubs, there’s no assigned reading or discussion, just a peaceful space to read your book among fellow book lovers.

Here’s how it works: arrive, settle in with a drink, and maybe share what you’re reading, spend a quiet, undisturbed hour reading, and then socialise (or continue reading if you prefer). Bring your current read, order your favourite beverage, and enjoy some uninterrupted reading time.

Sunday 15 June, 2 pm to 4 pm | Café Stepping Stone, Gullifer Street, Strathnairn | Register here.

Blueberries

Blueberries is a dance, music and drama program for two-to-four-year-olds. The program is designed for toddlers to attend with their parents for an hour of high-energy fun. There’s no uniform, with little ones encouraged to dress up and express themselves! It’s family-friendly, with other siblings (i.e. babies in prams) welcome.

GW Bot: Portrait of a landscape

For the past four decades artist GW Bot has been based in Canberra, specifically in Belconnen, and has worked in the surrounding landscape of the Monaro plateau, the remnant grasslands of Canberra and the Murrumbidgee River corridor. Her work views nature and landscape as active collaborators.

To capture and convey her relationship with and in the landscape, Bot has developed a type of language, a system of traces and marks that she created from literally thousands of quick sketches made in the landscape. She calls these markings  ‘glyphs’ or sometimes ‘Austral-glyphs’ denoting their antipodean origins. She assembles collections of glyphs to form narratives that come from the land and that offer a portrait of the land as well as a portrait of the artist. This exhibition, ‘Portrait of a landscape’, curated by Joe Eisenberg, draws together many of her works of art from the past four decades.

SNATCHES: Moments from 100 Years of Womens’ Lives

Commissioned by the BBC to mark the centenary of women’s suffrage in the United Kingdom and curated by Royal Court Artistic Director, Vicky Featherstone. Snatches: Moments from 100 Years of Women’s Lives documents, remembers and bears witness to a century of struggle for progress and equality for women.

Moving, funny, tragic and empowering, these gripping monologues address the constant efforts of women to carve out their rights both in domestic and public spheres – from the criminalisation of marital rape to the first Reclaim the Night march – proclaiming a history of perseverance and resilience shown by women’s rights activists.
