Upskill in 2025: Applications now open for Ginninderry’s SPARK Training and Employment Program
Ginninderry’s SPARK Training and Employment initiative will be delivering three training and employment programs in the first half of 2025.
Thinking about a career change? SPARK’s 2025 programs will focus on skill shortage areas such as early childhood education and care, conservation land management, and construction.
The SPARK program was created in 2016 to help improve education, social and economic outcomes for Canberra residents. Since its inception, the award-winning training and employment program has delivered significant outcomes, including 1672 training places, 707 work experience placements and 845 jobs.
“SPARK has always been an important initiative for the team at Ginninderry, says Head of Sustainability and Community Development, Jessica Stewart, who has seen firsthand how the initiative has positively influenced the lives of its participants.
“The program offers a different way of learning and up-skilling for those people who are disconnected from the labour market. It’s a unique opportunity to get into training and employment pathways that some people might not otherwise have the chance to participate in.”
Ginninderry partners with a wide variety of registered training organisations, stakeholders and employers to deliver programs aimed at key disadvantaged groups (youth, Aboriginal, mature aged, long-term unemployed and culturally linguistically diverse people). The program helps people progress through to training and possible future employment, like traineeships and apprenticeships.
“SPARK also puts the needs of its participants first – providing case management and wrap-around support so that each person can focus on learning the skills of their trade,” says Jessica.
“SPARK is all about giving participants confidence in themselves, providing them with greater skills and knowledge so they can continue further training, gain work experience or progress into employment.”
