Location, sustainability and affordability – the three reasons why Naveen and Poonam chose Ginninderry.

With our first residents set to move in before the years end, we caught up with Naveen and Poonam Bhatia to see what attracted them to Ginninderry and what excites them most about their new Streetscape Plus home.

“There are three things that attracted us to the Ginninderry development.” Naveen began.  “First of all is the location. You’re sitting right in the middle of nature, surrounded by mountains and the Murrumbidgee River…and it’s 15 kilometres from here to the city. It takes under 20 minutes to get to work. That’s what we want.”

A unique location, Ginninderry is bound by the Murrumbidgee River and Ginninderra Creek yet closer than you think. Five minutes from the Kippax Centre, 10 minutes from the Belconnen Town Centre and just 20 minutes from the centre of Canberra, Ginninderry is close to existing schools, shops and community facilities including sporting clubs, recreation areas and employment centres.

“Second is sustainability” Poonam added. “Because of the six-star rating, it’s very much an environmentally conscious suburb.”

Ginninderry has been awarded a six-star Green Star Community rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). This is the highest rating possible under this program and is a first for any community in the ACT and capital region.

“And third is affordability” Naveen continued. “If you compare the land price at this development with other suburbs that have come up around Canberra, it’s substantially cheaper. The money we’ll save in buying a block of land, we can use that money to build a better house.”

With a diverse range of blocks and housing types on offer, the Bhatia’s opted for a Streetscape Plus home. Streetscape Plus homes are planned for Ginninderry as part of the project’s commitment to housing diversity and providing affordable living options. They introduce versatile freestanding housing on mid-sized blocks and are an outstanding alternative living option for a wide range of buyers.

So, how are the Bhatia’s feeling about their new home?

“We are planning to move in December, and we are really excited about it.”
