Kick goals and make friends: Kids’ sport finds a home at Paddys Park

Every Monday afternoon for 10 weeks, Paddys Park becomes Ginninderry’s junior sports hub. Starting 13 October, kids aged 8-13 can enjoy free basketball and soccer sessions designed for fun, fitness, and building neighbourhood friendships.

The program runs from 4:30-5:30 pm each Monday, perfectly timed for that post-school energy burst. Whether your child is an experienced player or just starting out, these sessions welcome everyone. No pressure, no complicated skill divisions, just good fun with qualified coaches who understand that enjoyment matters most.

About the SMART Centre

The sessions are delivered by the SMART Centre, known throughout the region for their professional approach and commitment to wellbeing. Whilst the centre is renowned for therapeutic massage treatments, its expertise extends to youth sports programs that emphasise holistic health and development.

The SMART Centre brings the same attention to detail and care to their sports coaching that they apply to their therapeutic work, ensuring each child receives quality instruction in a supportive environment.

With spots limited to 14 participants per sport each week, sessions maintain the perfect balance between proper games and ensuring everyone gets involved. No one spends the hour on the sidelines.

Basketball sessions focus on fundamental skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting, combined with fun games. Soccer sessions work on ball control, teamwork, and game awareness, with plenty of match play. The hour-long format works well for this age group, enough time for a proper workout and skill development without fatigue setting in.

Practical Details

With support from a Ginninderry Sponsorship Grant, the program is free for Ginninderry residents, removing financial barriers to sport and recreation. Parents are required to stay on-site for the duration, which ensures safety whilst creating opportunities for families to connect.

With 10 consecutive weeks, children have time to genuinely develop skills and build lasting friendships. The consistent Monday afternoon timeslot makes it easy to build into your family’s weekly routine.

Places are limited and available first-come, first-served. Early registration is recommended through the Ginninderry events platform, where you’ll indicate your child’s sport preference and confirm availability for the program.
