Mini Train Rides at Dusk: Community Grant Brings Affordable Family Fun to Ginninderry
A fun evening of miniature train rides under colourful lights awaits local families on Saturday 22 February, thanks to Ginninderry’s Community Grants Program.
Organised by Kippax Uniting Church to help create lasting connections within Ginninderry’s growing community, Mini Train Rides at Dusk demonstrates how local initiatives are making family entertainment more accessible to all residents.
Participants will be transported from The Link at Ginninderry to the Canberra Miniature Railway in Symonston for an evening of unlimited train rides amidst a spectacular light display.
Through the grant’s support, tickets are being offered at the remarkably affordable price of just $6 per person or $12 per family (up to five members), with children under two years riding free. Additionally, complimentary transportation ensures that all families, regardless of their access to private vehicles, can participate.
“We are very excited about the Ginninderry grants program,” says Faith and Community Coordinator Marike Jago.
‘It enables families that wouldn’t be able to afford events such as the Mini Train Rides to enjoy such an outing with their family and also connect with other families in their community,”
Community Building Through Grants
The Community Grants Program reflects Ginninderry’s commitment to gradually transitioning from developer-led activities to community-driven initiatives. By providing financial support and removing practical barriers, the program enables residents to shape their community’s culture through activities of their choosing.
This structured grant program ensures fair and equal assessment of all submissions while accommodating various community-scale events and projects. Through initiatives like the Mini Train Rides at Dusk, Ginninderry continues to build stronger connections among its residents while making family entertainment accessible to all.
“Being able to run these events also offers newcomers to the area ideas of what might be possible things to do with their families in the future” says Marike.
“Many families have not ventured very far from their homes or their side of Canberra – so it’s great to be able to show them around.”
