Meet Amy Symonds – Ginninderry’s Design Manager

Who are the people behind Canberra’s most sustainable community? This week we meet Amy Symonds, Ginninderry’s Design Manager and newest team member.

Amy’s role is to assess and approve proposed new homes against the Ginninderry Housing Design Requirements.  The Housing Design Requirements ensure all homes contribute to Ginninderry’s high standards and vision as a 6-Star Green Star Community.  Amy has a particular interest in the ACT’s building regulations, and enjoys the challenge of helping purchasers, builders and designers realise their dreams of building best-in-class homes.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in Canberra but have also lived in other cities around Australia and the world. Canberra has always been home and where I have chosen to stay and raise our family. I am inherently passionate about our city and the industry. I believe we should continue to uphold a high standard of building design for the future of our city and its inhabitants, especially in the areas of sustainability and innovation. Ginninderry’s values and my own align well, and I very much enjoy being a part of the team here.

What does your role bring to the Ginninderry project?

I have worked in the development and construction industries in the ACT for the past 14 years. I can offer a unique perspective of the home-building process; not only have I worked with some of the region’s most prominent developers, designers and builders throughout the course of my career, but I have also recently built my own family home. I am well versed in the challenges and opportunities home building can bring, not only to the home builder but to the team they are working with.

A Fun Fact?

I love the outdoors! On any given weekend you will find my young family and I mountain biking at Stromlo, four-wheel driving to somewhere remote to camp or enjoying one of Canberra’s many great walking tracks or swimming holes. Packing a gourmet picnic to refuel during our adventures is essential too! We’re so lucky to live in a place that has all the benefits of city living but has such great opportunities for getting out into nature. My family and I take full advantage of this!
