Celebrating Life and Culture: Two Stunning New Artworks in Macnamara

Ginninderry is proud to unveil two captivating new artworks in Macnamara, each a tribute to the fundamental connections between people, culture, flora, fauna, and water.

These striking pieces now adorn the walls of buildings housing essential Icon Water infrastructure.

‘River Life’ by Canberra local Leah Brideson

Canberra-based artist Leah Brideson, a self-taught Contemporary Aboriginal (Kamilaroi) Artist, brings her signature storytelling to Macnamara with River Life. Originally commissioned in 2021 as part of Ginninderry’s First Nations Design Library, this artwork illustrates the intricate relationships between rivers, the land, and people. Brideson describes River Life as an expression of “the river’s diverse connections, the flora and fauna, and the Ngunnawal people’s deep relationship with the land, emphasising the importance of environmental respect.” At the heart of her piece, the ripple effect in the water symbolises the passing of knowledge through generations—a powerful reminder of continuity and care for the natural world.

“Waters of Ginninderry, Life Beneath” by Wilay Designs

The second artwork is the work of renowned Ngunawal artists Wilay Designs. This piece invites viewers to dive beneath the water’s surface, revealing the unseen yet vital ecosystems that thrive below. Wilay Designs captures the essence of water as a keeper of stories, memories, and shared responsibilities. “Waterways hold stories of old, memories, and a shared responsibility to keep them clean, healthy, and flowing, so they can continue to nurture the land, the animals, and the people for generations to come,” the artists explain. This artwork serves as both a celebration and a call to action—honoring the past while encouraging stewardship for the future.
