Celebrating Connection: WLEID’s Galentine’s Picnic brings women together
On a warm Sunday afternoon in mid-February, The Link became a sea of pink as women from across Canberra gathered for WLEID’s Galentine’s Picnic, made possible through a Ginninderry Sponsorship Grant.
Women Lead for Empowerment and Intercultural Diversity (WLEID) creates spaces where culturally and linguistically diverse women can connect, support each other, and simply be themselves. Their Galentine’s Day celebration exemplified exactly that: an afternoon dedicated to sisterhood and community.
From 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, The Link’s outdoor spaces were filled with picnic blankets, conversations in multiple languages, and children playing freely. The event featured games, BBQ lunch and drinks, and plenty of space to unwind.
“Anything WLEID is always refreshing, and Galentine’s Day with them was one for the books.” Says attendee Pearl Neequaye.
“I definitely felt the love through the activities, location, food and ladies in attendance. Thank you WLEID for always meeting the emotional and psychological needs of CALD women, and women in general. Thank you Ginninderry for providing us with the lovely space.”

WLEID’s event was supported through Ginninderry’s annual Sponsorship Grants program, which allocates $50,000 annually to local organisations aligned with Ginninderry’s vision of sustainability and community development.
When Pearl says she “definitely felt the love,” she’s describing genuine community warmth that comes from thoughtful event design and people gathering with open hearts. That’s what WLEID created at The Link, and that’s exactly what Ginninderry’s Sponsorship Grants program aims to support.
