As the weather slowly begins to warm, the vibrant community of Ginninderry is coming to life with plenty to see and do.

From amazing art exhibitions to community groups to help you connect, here are eight ways to explore Ginninderry this August.

Ajith Perera: Shadow Work

Exploring the subconscious, the work of local emerging artist Ajith Perea will make you look twice with its slightly unsettling elements. Inspired by the bizarre and esoteric, the work of Marlene Dumas, Bill Henson, Michelle Kingdom, and Outsider artists, the exhibition presents Perera’s drawn works—created by using automatism using ink as a starting point, a medium he prefers due to its versatility and expressive qualities.

Wednesday 2 until Sunday 27 August | Strathnairn Arts Association, 90 Stockdill Drive, Holt | More information here.

Nathan Nhan

The Anita McIntyre Residency Award is presented annually by Strathnairn Arts as part of the EASS Awards and is generally for a three-month residency. Honouring Anita McIntyre (who has been instrumental in the development and success of Strathnairn Arts since the 1990s), head along to Gallery 2 at Strathnairn Arts to see the work of the 2022 award winner—Nathan Nhan, a ceramicist whose practice uses experimental making.

Squares

Support local artists by visiting the Squares exhibition—a presentation of work from entrants who have entered the 17th People’s Choice Awards. Using a square 300 x 300mm canvas, entrants have used any media to create a work which (in exciting news) are not only all exhibited, but they’re also for sale.
