Art with Heart – The Gogster Chronicles
A heartwarming new exhibition at The Link shows how local volunteer group Good Omen Goodeze is making hospital stays brighter, one stitch at a time.
‘Art with Heart – The Gogster Chronicles’ features a special collection of “Gogsters”: unique handmade companions that are much more than just sweet toys.
Crocheted or knitted with simple stitches, bright yarns and an abundance of love, each Gogster is thoughtfully crafted to be hugged, held and cherished by patients spending long, isolating periods in Canberra hospitals.
Beyond the vital emotional connection they offer, there is a clever therapeutic element to their design.
For patients missing their beloved pets at home, the Gogsters provide gentle solace, weighted perfectly to mimic the comforting presence of a small animal resting across their legs. They can even double as a soft chest splint or serve to support a sensitive limb, offering physical relief when needed most.
Since its early beginnings in 2017, the Good Omen Goodeze needle-craft group has grown steadily in numbers, with its members dedicated to creating comfort goodies to support mental health, community resilience and patient well-being.
The makers pour their personal style into every piece, experiment with playful colour combinations, craft expressive faces, and create imaginative designs that give each companion its own narrative.

Alongside the classic characters, the group has developed a range of themed comfort pillows. There are playful footy-inspired designs perfect for sports fans, as well as calming, nature-themed creations tailored to bring an extra bit of joy to different personalities.
Every stitch truly tells a story, and every Gogster carries a profound act of kindness from a community that cares.

Come along to meet the Gogsters, read some of their stories and experience the magic for yourself at the exhibition, which runs until 7 June.
