A Ginninderry-supported program helping migrants and refugees build pathways into construction and renewable energy has been recognised at the 2026 ACT Training Awards.

The SPARK Construction Taster Program for Migrants and Refugees took home the Industry Collaboration Award, recognising the strength of the partnership behind the nine-week program.

Delivered in partnership with CIT, Ginninderry, The Umbrella Collective, UnitingCare Kippax, Neoen, Multicultural Hub Canberra, Workforce Australia and a range of industry partners, SPARK was developed to address skills shortages while helping participants access meaningful employment opportunities.

The program combined accredited training, industry exposure, work experience and wrap-around support. Students received training, industry tickets and personal protective equipment at no cost, alongside mentoring, case management and employment support.

And the results have been impressive.

Fifteen participants completed the program, achieving a 100 per cent completion rate, while gaining industry-recognised qualifications, site experience and valuable connections with employers.

For many, the program has also opened the door to what comes next, with participants progressing into further CIT study, work experience placements and employment opportunities.

The award is a great reflection of what can happen when community organisations, education providers and industry come together around a shared goal. For Ginninderry, it’s another example of the importance of creating opportunities for people to build skills, connect with their community and find pathways into the workforce.

Congratulations to everyone involved in SPARK, and to the participants whose hard work made the program such a success.
