Sliding Doors – with a difference
Friday 21 April signaled a special occasion in time for the Ginninderry project, with the installation by ACT Steelworks of two perforated, powder coated steel screens completing the current entrance way to the project office and multi-purpose community centre, The Link.
As far as doors go, these aren’t your average, with the two movable glazed panels featuring a design by Strathnairn studio holder, Jo Hollier of a native woodland forest scene. The image, selected by the Ginninderry Public Art Reference Group and project curator Peter Haynes, was commissioned with the intent of creating a work of art that was not only symbolic and visually appealing, but functional, with a series of translucent perforations allowing natural light to pass through into the building.
The clever concept, conceived by The Link architect Kevin Miller of CCJ Architects and fabricated by perforated metals manufacturer Metrix Group, also allows partial views into and out of the building; and is just another in a series of creative and environmentally conscious concepts which define the building.
This latest addition to The Link is part of a series of ongoing improvements being made to the building, and is by no means the last!
