Ginninderry includes land in both the ACT and NSW. For the development to occur, the land on both sides of the border needs to be rezoned. The ACT Territory Plan Variation (DV351) was approved in 2015 with an amendment to the National Capital Plan announced in July 2016. For the NSW component of the project site, the rezoning process and community consultation phase is anticipated to commence in late 2017, with a decision anticipated in 2018.
This consultation is being undertaken by the Joint Venture, to provide early opportunities for the community to learn more about Ginninderry, and in particular the Parkwood, NSW component of the project.
There will be a further statutory consultation process initiated by Yass Valley Council should Council and the NSW Department of Planning and Environment issue a Gateway Determination after their initial consideration of the Planning Proposal for Parkwood submitted to Council in June 2017. During that statutory consultation any interested person may make formal submissions to Council in respect of the proposal.
Development is expected to commence at Stockdill Drive (the eastern boundary of the site) and extend westward in stages. Assuming that 300 dwelling sites are released each year it will take almost forty years until the development is complete. It is likely to be at least 10 years before the development crosses the NSW border. An earlier start may be possible to open up access to Ginninderra Falls.
