SPARK, Ginninderry’s training and employment initiative, will launch three new programs in spring to provide more workplace opportunities for the Belconnen community.
New courses will be offered as part of the successful Strathnairn Construction Program and West Belconnen Administration Pre-Employment Program, while the new Belconnen Return to Work Program for Women will be launched.
SPARK will partner with the ACT Government Office for Women and Career Shop to deliver the Belconnen Return to Work Program for Women with a series of workshops designed to prepare women within the Belconnen region entering or returning to the workforce.
Emma Sckrabei, SPARK Training and Employment Manager, said the new women’s workshops were an exciting addition to the SPARK program.
“The Belconnen Return to Work Program for Women is an exciting new initiative that we can’t wait to launch,” Emma said. “Over the course of three workshops, SPARK, in partnership with Career Shop and the ACT Government Office for Women, will cover resume writing and applying for jobs, interview techniques and personal presentation and styling, in order to help women preparing to come back into the workforce or enter it for the first time.”
In the last 12 months both former construction and administration pre-employment programs have recorded a range of impressive outcomes, with 28 graduates having secured full-time employment with program partners or associated industry bodies in the business administration and construction sectors.
“Helping our local workforce to diversify their interests and apply these in a professional setting within the local community is a major drawcard of the SPARK program and something we at Ginninderry are inherently passionate about”, Emma said.
“For us it’s not just about jobs, but helping people find their niche in life – what makes them tic; and then providing them with skills, know-how and confidence to pursue their new career.”
“2017 has been massive for SPARK program partners and participants; and the good news is that with just four months left until the end of the year, these three new programs will provide the community with even more opportunities!”
