Meet Mel Lyons – Ginninderry’s SPARK Training and Employment Manager

This week we meet Mel Lyons, Ginninderry SPARK Training and Employment Manager.

Mel’s role at Ginninderry is to empower the Capital Region community by planning, managing and delivering the SPARK Training and Employment Initiative.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I grew up in Yass, NSW, amongst a family of creatives, and moved to Canberra as a young adult to attend the Canberra School of Art. Whilst art has always been a focus, life has an interesting way of throwing open doors that just need to be explored.

As a passionate lifelong learner, I have studied and worked across many roles, most focussing on education and counselling.

What does your role bring to the Ginninderry project?

SPARK is unique. Born out of Ginninderry’s commitment to improving the education, social and economic outcomes of residents in the local area, we deliver training programs in collaboration with a range of stakeholders across a range of industries.

My role allows me to combine my passion for supporting people and education. With every new program, I meet amazing new people from all walks of life. I have the privilege of hearing their story, being a part of their journey, witnessing their determination, resilience and growth and sharing this with the Ginninderry Team.

A fun Fact?

My happy place is in my shed surrounded by old car parts, armed with a welder and angle grinder, or at the beach!
