Today at Ginninderry, we held the unveiling of the Little Eagle Glyph sculpture.

Ginninderry prides itself on a unique setting adjacent to the river corridor and today’s artwork will reside with a fantastic landscape backdrop.

In collaboration with artsACT, the ACT Government’s arts agency, today’s new Little Eagle sculpture will be managed along with the public art collection of over 100 artworks across Canberra.

The Little Eagle is one of the smallest eagles in the world (Hieraaetus morphnoides) and risks becoming extinct in the ACT region.

Originally found throughout mainland Australia, the Little Eagle was declared a vulnerable species in the ACT in 2008. It is also listed as vulnerable in New South Wales.

Sightings of the Little Eagle have been recorded across much of the ACT, but the breeding range is restricted to the lower parts of the northern ACT such as the Murrumbidgee and the Molonglo river corridors.

The ACT Government has an active Little Eagle action plan focusing on protection and survival of the declared species.

Congratulations to our artist, Chrissy Grishin also known as G.W.Bot, in creating a piece that will be remembered and talked of fondly with Ginninderry residents and the community.

This permanent sculpture will create a centrepiece to remind us of the importance of flora and fauna as the estate develops in tandem with the environment it surrounds.

The vision for Ginninderry is to create a place underpinned by leading-edge design and development practices.

Today’s unveiling of this magnificent artwork will tell a story about the Little Eagle for years to come.
