While Ginninderry will have a character all of its own, it is also an extension of the existing West Belconnen community. New residents at Ginninderry will use many of the existing services such as external roads, water supply, sewerage networks, electricity supply and the like, and they will help to underpin the ongoing viability and success of schools and shops in the region.
Of course there will be additional services, facilities and upgrades to existing infrastructure (especially external roads) progressively over time as Ginninderry grows steadily.
At Ginninderry, we want every resident to get the most from the energy they use. So solar panels will be required on every home and there will be incentives for installing high-efficiency appliances. We’re also looking at innovative ways to network households to maximise the electricity generated by solar panels and to provide battery storage options that are cost effective. The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an upgrade to Australia’s existing telecommunications network. It will provide the infrastructure for affordable, high-speed internet and phone access for all Australians. By providing fibre to the home, we’ll ensure broadband speeds better than the national NBN standard. All land at Ginninderry will be NBN-ready from the time of the first settlements in 2017. Super-fast broadband will be a particular boon for those with a home business or who occasionally work from home.
As part of our first phase of construction, we’re building a new community and information space – a multi-purpose centre located in the north-eastern corner of the Strathnairn Arts site. This will provide services for existing members of the Strathnairn Arts community and for new Ginninderry residents. It will include our own sales and information centre and provide spaces for training, community gatherings and additional exhibition spaces for local artists. There will also be a temporary general store and a café. The building and its surrounding area will be a focus for local events such as markets, fetes, festivals and classes.
